omg, this is not a restaurant
The French people are famous for their exquisite cuisines, progressive culture, and heavy-handed snobbery. Only one of these three was present at the General Consulate of France. I called to make a reservation for myself and a lady friend, but I was constantly rebuffed. The woman on the phone was most unpleasant, would not take my reservation, and claimed my desire to eat at her restaurant was not "official business". One might wonder what the official business of a restaurant is.
Just to let the genius know that left the review about restaurant reservations that maybe they were rude because IT IS NOT A RESTAURANT!
I have long bemoaned that Americans' reputation in the world must be tarnished by the rubes in our country, and I always try to remain enlightened and cultured, and frankly, I expected more from the General Consulate of France. As a lonely cultural outpost in the heart of Cleveland, one would think they would project some of the high class and sophistication for which the French are so renowned, but they were just as rude, uncultured, and inhospitable as the lesser societies they look down on. Thumbs down!
Not to be deterred, we dressed for an elegant evening and went to the establishment, hoping that our personal presence might change their tune. We were surprised to find the French even more inhospitable in person, as upon entering, we were confronted by armed men and an oppressively dull ambiance. Sterile gray marble, surly hosts who would not deign to leave their desks to greet us, and not a single table in sight! Even if one subjected oneself to the invasive metal detectors and pat-downs, where would the waiters take you for your meal! I could not see any seating area, and when asked about their accommodations, the wait staff was quite curt and demeaning.
